Education transforms lives. United World Schools (UWS) works in some of the world's poorest regions to give every child access to free education. We partner with local communities and supporters around the world to teach the unreached.

Our Mission

To create educational opportunities for children living in remote and marginalised communities

Our Vision

A world in which all children have the chance to go to school

Where it all began

Our beginnings as a charity were humble. Chris Howarth, who first visited Cambodia in 2006 as a volunteer educational consultant, saw a need and opportunity to work with the hugely under-resourced local educational authorities of Ratanakiri, in NE Cambodia. Chris, being Chris, took action. Thanks to his vision, drive and commitment, the first community school opened in Kong Nork village in 2009 – UWS was born. The organisation has grown and developed every year since.

Today United World Schools have expanded to three countries. The organisation continues to reach children and communities in isolated and marginalised areas. UWS’s ethos, values and beliefs remain true to Chris’s original vision. We are incredibly proud of what he has started and commit to continuing his wonderful work.

On behalf of the thousands of children who have since enrolled in a UWS Community School in Myanmar, Cambodia and Nepal, we say thank you to Chris – an inspiration to us all.

A Note on Governance

We are an educational charity independent of any political, faith or cultural missions. We only engage in charitable activities. We have no shareholders nor does any person or company benefit from our income or assets other than as a recipient of charitable activities.

If we were to stop operating, UWS assets would be distributed to other charitable organisations for similar educational purposes.
