Latest Blog Highlights of the Instagram Takeover The Team at UWS felt that the remarkable moments captured by the #instagramtakeover were too valuable to lose, so we saved a selection of our favourites insights! Thank you, Ellie and Bea, for all the brilliant work you have done us over the past few months. If you want to learn more about what our volunteers do, or are interested in volunteering yourself, please follow this link to our website. p Their day began at 6:30 am, travelling to the village of Jong Ra. First we met Ellie, who is 22 and been volunteering for two and a half months as the official UWS photographer. As well as taking stunning picture, she trained mambers of the local Cambodian teams in photography. p We then met Bea, who is also 22 and has been responsible for collecting and analysing school data. We use this data for monitoring and evaluation purposes and it is vital information to improve the quality of our education we provide. p p p Over the course of the day, we got first-hand accounts from various members of the UWS community. They spoke to one of our community teachers, Sombath, and he told us about how he ‘always wanted to be a teacher and without UWS, he would not be able to.’ It was a lovely reminder that UWS doe not just transform thousands of children lives, but provides hundreds of community teachers with new rewarding employment opportunities. p One of our brilliant new kindergarten teachers, Soklyn, reflected on gender equality and how important it was to educate girls ‘when girls get an education, they can find better jobs and are able to do anything!’ Before we build a school, we secure a memorandum of understanding with the local community to send all their girls, as well boys to school. It was great to see that our teachers are equally committed to having a 1:1 ratio in our schools! p p In many ways what was most special about the day, was seeing the students explain what they enjoyed about school and their ambitions for the future! p p p p p p p p Their action-packed day ended in the Banlung office, processing all the information they had collected. Thanks again for all you have done for UWS. If you would like to see the whole video, visit our Facebook page!
