What is the 2.6 challenge? 

As many charity fundraising events have been cancelled, the #TwoPointSixChallenge is helping save the UK’s charities. Now everyone can get involved:

  • Take part in an activity of your choice based around the numbers 2.6 or 26
  • Donate £26 (or whatever you can afford) to our fundraising page 
  • Ask your friends and family to sponsor you and challenge them to do their own 2.6 task
  • Complete your challenge!

£26 could support the remote education of a child for two months

Stuck for ideas? We’ve come up with some perfect challenges for families to take on this Sunday. Whatever you choose, we can’t wait to see it! Make sure you share your challenges on social media and tag @unitedworldschools. 

1. Take on the classic push up

The great thing about this #TwoPointSixChallenge is that there are many ways families and children can get involved and adapt this idea to suit fitness levels and how much you are prepared to challenge yourself. 

If you want to split 260 push ups between the family, then take on an equal amount each. If that’s going to be too much for the kids, then give them slightly less. 

If you’re looking for some peace and quiet, set your kids the challenge of doing 260 push ups over the course of 26 days. For an extra bit of fun, spark a healthy dose of sibling rivalry to see who can complete the challenge first. 

2. Get reading 

Whilst the Coronavirus pandemic has put the nation in lockdown, seen 32 percent of businesses plan on furloughing 75 - 100 percent of their staff and has put people living in poor regions across the world in even more of a vulnerable position, it has also given us more time to reflect, take time for ourselves and do things we never usually have the time to do. 

Like reading. 

For some of us, reading comes naturally. We struggle to put a book down, and could easily read 26 books in 2.6 months, but for others, reading is a luxury we only allow ourselves when we’re sitting by the pool on holiday or lounging in the garden on a warm summer’s day. 

And children are no different. Some take to paper a lot more easily than others, and this is the perfect time to encourage them to read more. 

Regardless of whether you reserve books for that rare moment of respite, or you have children that need to be reading more, this challenge is for you. 

This #TwoPointSixChallenge is easily adaptable depending on your situation, making it a win-win. 

If you’re the type of family that has 26 unfinished books waiting to be read from cover to cover, then set the challenge of reading 2.6 books each by a deadline that best suits your lifestyle. 

If, however, your family are total book fiends and can’t get enough of your fiction favourites and bodacious biographies, then why not go crazy and set yourself the challenge of reading 26 - or a whopping 260 - books between you by the end of the year. 

And, if you want to keep your children quiet whilst encouraging them to explore the likes of Narnia, Hogwarts and Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory, then get them doing the challenge on their own. 

3. Dough you think you’re ready? 

This challenge is for the foodies. Or anyone who loves pizza. So basically, this challenge is for everyone. 

It’s very simple and, because of its cheesy and doughy goodness, it could be argued that this isn’t so much of a challenge - but who are we to judge? However, why not set yourself a pizza based challenge of some kind. 

Perhaps you could challenge the kids (or the family) to eating 26 slices of pizza throughout the day. If you’re feeling extra peckish or have a large family, why not push the boat out with 26 pizzas. 

If pizza is the winning dish in your home, like many families nationwide, why not take this challenge one-step further and challenge the family to get stuck in and make 26 (or 2.6) pizzas in one day. 

4. Take a tech break 

Has your screen time gone through the roof during lockdown? Between Zoom quizzes, remote working and Netflix bingeing, ours certainly has. 

The 2.6 challenge is all about mixing things up. So we challenge your family to take 2.6 hours away from all phones, televisions, laptops and screens. If you want to make it even harder, try taking 26 hours out from technology. 

Perhaps you could challenge the kids to see who can last the longest without watching television or playing video games? And if they need something to entertain them in the meantime, set them up with one of the other challenges above to really push the boat out. 

5. Compete in a rap battle

Secretly think you’re the next Stormzy? Let those lyrics loose by challenging everyone in your family to compose a 26-second rap or song. 

If you’re in need of some lyrical inspiration, you could cover life in lockdown, your favourite quarantine activity, or even rap about the rest of your family. 

Give everyone a chance to shine by hosting a rap battle where your whole family can share their bars and compete to be the ultimate rap star (move over, Eminem).

6. Take a 26-second cold shower

If you want to get your challenge over quickly, this one's for you. It certainly won’t be pleasant though. Turn the temperature down and spend 26 seconds in a cold shower - all for charity, of course.
