Have you ever wanted to spend three months in a remote community, making a huge difference and seeing the impact education can have first-hand? Livia Benschu, a 19 year old student from Potsdam, was inspired to become a long-term UWS volunteer after visiting Cambodia with our German partner ConCultures in 2014. Livia has been in Cambodia since early January, working with our UWS team and in the ConCultures Partner School, UWS Roy.
Livia has had a great time so far and is making a real difference to our UWS operations. She spent the first two weeks with our central team in Cambodia; observing the different teams, getting to know the individuals and working out where best she could use her skills and experience. Since then Livia has been supporting our teacher trainers, working with volunteer groups and helping to collect valuable data on the impact UWS is making.
Livia is just back from a weekend’s R&R visiting the ancient temples of Angkor Wat and is now leading a project to interview and record the life stories of rural villagers. The purpose is to create new resources for us to share with Partner Schools as well as allowing us to build a database with rich information on each of the communities that we support. If you would like to volunteer then you can find out more here.
