We’re incredibly pleased to tell you all about the hard work that Hannah Watts, a student at UWC Atlantic College, has been doing to fundraise for us.
Hannah, 17, was initially drawn to the aims, mission and sustainable nature of UWS’ work.
“What UWS was able to offer with such a small amount of money was, in my eyes, incredible”.
In May of this year, Hannah, along with other students from Atlantic College, Li Po Chun (LPC), and the Adriatic UWC of Italy visited Cambodia to help with various UWS projects for three weeks. While on this visit, Hannah and the other students were able to see for themselves how the work of UWS can have a definitive, positive impact on marginalised communities. She first got involved with UWS through our partnership with Atlantic College, who, as a school, have fundraised for us by selling sushi and cupcakes, among other activities.
Hannah took it upon herself to raise over £300 by asking for donations from friends, family and contacts. This money will directly help the village community of Na Cam, where it will be used to build a well. Hannah specifically wanted to fund this project because she saw that the village’s only source of water was the river. Other villages the group visited had already benefitted from having a water pump or well installed, and Hannah wanted to do the same for the people of Na Cam.
