Since opening in 2010, UWS Tien School has served families of the Tampoun tribe in the Borkaeo district of Ratanakiri, Cambodia. It was the third UWS school to be built and is now in need of some renovation, including improvements to the roof panels and wooden structure. Still, UWS Tien has the deepest well of all our schools!
Thanks to the support of staff and students at UWC Li Po Chun, Hong Kong, the Tien community has developed significantly in the past few years. Currently, the school has two local teachers and one trained teacher. The community has benefitted from the continuous support of Mr Tek, who has taught there since it opened. Now, the school is at the heart of village life, with good classroom facilities, a well-used library and over 120 children regularly attending lessons.
As we head into 2014/15, there remains progress to be made. Plans for the upcoming year include supplying the library with better learning materials, as well as ongoing teacher mentoring and professional development. We will also be equipping all students with their own UWS school bag, containing an exercise book, basic stationery and crayons for drawing.
We’re looking forward to continue working with UWC Li Po Chun to support the further development of the Tien village community in the coming year!
