Situated in the Oyadao region of Ratanakiri, UWS Padol School serves local families of the Charai tribe. UWS Padol has improved greatly through 2013/14 with the ongoing support of the staff and students from Padol’s Partner School, Renaissance College, Hong Kong.
A new teacher house has recently been built and the much needed well has helped to bring the school into the heart of the community. The newly resourced library and self-learning centre is aimed at improving literacy and attendance.
The school in Padol village has three classrooms, with two trained teachers and on-site teacher accommodation. Attendance at the school has recently seen a significant improvement (from 40 pupils per day to over 100), thanks to a positive relationship with the School Support Committee and the village chief.
Looking ahead, there are still improvements to be made. We are planning to provide better sporting activities and learning resources, as well as ongoing teacher mentoring and professional development. We will be equipping all students with their own UWS school bag, containing and exercise book, basic stationery and crayons for drawing. Plans are also in place to employ a new member of staff from the community as a librarian.
As we go into 2014/15, we’re looking forward to working with RCHK to further support the development of this community and school.
