One of our newest projects, UWS O Tabok School has been running informally since July earlier this year – the community just couldn’t wait to start! October 2014 will mark its official opening.
UWS O Tabok School is our only school in TaVeng District. It is a complete school, with three classrooms, solar power, a toilet, well and a teacher house. The school is well staffed with a qualified teacher who has recently married a local woman. She will take on responsibility for the newly resourced library and self-learning centre. The married couple are also keen farmers, growing rice in the school grounds.
As a new school, there remains a lot of work to be done in the coming year. We need to provide learning resources for pupils, as well as developing the on-site facilities. We will be equipping all students with their own UWS school bag, containing an exercise book, basic stationery and crayons for drawing.
In addition, as is the case with all of our schools, the teachers at UWS O Tabok School require ongoing professional development. Through this provision, we will enable the delivery of appropriate and high quality lessons.
Another of our key priorities here is to support the community to develop strong school attendance. With the school already at the centre of village life, this should be a relatively smooth process.
Going into 2014/15, we’re looking forward to working with Fitzwilliam College Alumni to continue making a positive impact on this community.
