This is the story of Anna, one of the young girls’ whose life has been transformed through a UWS education.
We promote gender equality in all of our schools, ensuring that even in cultures where this is not the norm, girls have the chance to learn to read, write and count. By investing in girls’ education in all UWS schools, our objective is to help young women to grow up as active citizens in their communities, creating better prospects for their families and futures.
Though we teach students the national language in all our schools, in Cambodia and Myanmar we work with ethnic-minority groups for whom these languages are not the mother tongue.
As the new year gets underway, we reflect on some of our highlights of 2016, as well as some of the things we’re looking forward to in 2017.
This year, the focus of our Christmas Campaign is a village in Stung Treng Province, Cambodia: Kang Daek. Located on an island in one of the many tributaries to the Mekong river, Kang Daek is home to 243 families, nearly all of whom are subsistence farmers.
