We are very excited about our “Bag for a Bag” programme with the artisan bag company Vida Vida.
Vida Vida founders, Matt and Andreya met on a beach in Fiji in 1999. A wedding, two kids and years of travelling the world has resulted in a bag company unlike any other. Founded on the belief that a business should be fun, fair and based on friendship, Vida Vida have developed close relationships with artisans and craftsmen from around the world. The results are beautiful handmade bags and excellent working conditions and salaries for their partners. They are currently developing work with women’s cooperatives in India to promote gender equality, which we think is fantastic! Their range of hand-embroidered leather bags have all been produced by these women’s groups who would have otherwise had no chance of income.
Aside from their ethical business practices, Vida Vida have long supported charity work. Co-founder Matt even swam the channel to raise funds for the local schools near their suppliers! Having previously supported Unicef, the business duo were looking for a new charity to team up with when a chance meeting with United World Schools last year provided the golden opportunity. We got talking and the “Bag for a Bag” programme was born.
Now, for every bag bought from Vida Vida, they will be donating a bag to one of our UWS schoolchildren. It goes without saying that these school bags are so important in giving the students a sense of belonging and identity and of course in providing them with the basic learning resources they need for lessons. Previously, this had been quite a large expense for us, but now we are able to use the money saved to keep building and developing new schools.
Thank you for your support Vida Vida!
